We will be meeting with our buddies to celebrate Christmas.  We will be making gift bags in class to give to our buddies.

Thursday:

The program starts at 7:00.  Students need to arrive by 6:30 and should meet me by the steps on the left.  Please make sure to keep their coats with you.  Parents can pick up their children immediately after the performance in the lobby.  Kindergarten is not sitting in the balcony this year and will sit with their families if they are going to stay for the rest of the performance.

Friday:
Jean Day
Students may wear jeans with a Christmas shirt or uniform/Friday shirt.

Economic Mall
Every year, 8th grade puts on the Economic Mall.  They sell items that they have made and it gives the students an opportunity to buy Christmas presents for their family.  If you would like to shop with your child, please meet us in the Church basement at 9:00.  If you are not shopping with your child, please send in a few dollars so that they can shop on their own.

Happy Birthday Jesus

October 17, 2014

We had such a busy week in kindergarten!  Lot of learning happening :)  Please remember that the reading books sent home should be "easy" right now.  I'll be moving students up levels in the next few weeks.  The books sent home are the level they tested at and are meant to boost their confidence in reading right now and ensuring they are not frustrated.  Students should be pointing to each word (unless they are above a level C) and using the pictures for help (don't cover up the pictures).

Thursday is our field trip to Amazing Acres in Edwardsburg/Mason, Michigan.  We'll probably arrive around 9:20 and we'll be returning to school at 1:10.  Parents are welcome to meet us there, but keep in mind they'll be with their 8th grade buddy the whole time.  Please pack a bag lunch on Thursday.  Students may wear jeans and their Friday shirt or school uniform shirt.  Please dress your children warmly as we'll be outside!

Starting Monday, students may not wear shorts to school.

There is no hot lunch next Friday so please plan accordingly.

You might have heard your child talk about Daily Five this week.  We started Daily Five which are our literary stations/centers.  We do Daily Five every day and the different centers are: Read to Self, Work with Teacher, Word Work, Work on Writing, Listen to Reading.  Students cycle through each station every week and then repeat the next week.

Starting next week, we will be working on two sight words a week instead of one.  Please practice sight words at home as well!

Remember that our Field Trip is Thursday October 23.  Please bring a sack lunch that day as we will eat at the pumpkin patch.  Also, there is no hot lunch on Friday October 24.  Please pack a lunch on that day as well.

Every month we do a writing prompt.  The scores for the writing prompt are averaged for their scores on the report card.  I sent home the results for our writing prompt.  By the end of kindergarten, students should score consistently at 8 or above.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

I started sending home reading books.  Please read with your child and then send back the next day in the Ziploc.  I will assess the students throughout the year and move them up to the next level.  These books may be easy initially, but it is to build confidence in "reading" and eliminate frustration.

As it is getting colder, remember to label all jackets and coats with your name.  Children need a jacket in order to go outside and play!

Have a great week!

Happy October!

We read the book "How full is your bucket?  For Kids" by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer.  We've been talking a lot as a class about how we can fill each other's invisible buckets by doing kind things and helping others.

Remember Tuesday is a 2:00 Dismissal and picture retakes.  Friday is a Jeans Day with donations accepted for Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Our field trip with our 8th grade buddies is finalized!  We will be going to Amazing Acres on Thursday October 23.  Parents are welcome to come, but you must meet us out there.  We'll leave school about 8:45 and return about 1:15.  Please send a sack lunch/lunchbox on that day as we'll eat there.  Permission slips are in the folder today.

Our Halloween party will be on Friday October 31 from 2:00-2:45.  Again, parents are welcome to attend, but no siblings please.  Thanks to our room parents Meredith Santucci, Mallory Schoenle, and Erica Richey for their help with this!

There is a homework sheet for the letter L going home today.  Please return by next Friday (10/10).  If the project the student chooses to do is something that can easily be brought to school, feel free to send it in so that they can share.  Homework is for extra practice and an extension on what we're working on at school.  Remember that the math practice sheets do not need to be returned unless you would like me to look over something.
