Our Halloween party will be Friday, October 30 from 2:15-2:45. Look for more information to come from our room parents.
We started Daily Five (literacy centers) last week. You will see a reading book coming home with your child each week. Please comment or sign so that we know that you read it with your child. Keep in mind that sometimes the books are "easy" for your child to read. This is designed to build up their confidence with reading. I will continue to assess their level and move them up accordingly throughout the year. The levels start with PC (Print Concepts), AA, A, B, C, D, and so on. Your child must be at a level C by the end of kindergarten. If your child is reading at or below a level C, please make sure they are pointing to each word. Let me know if you have any questions!

We've made it 32 days in Kindergarten! As we enter into the month of October, we begin Daily 5 (literacy centers) and Math Stations. You may notice the work getting a little more challenging and students making more progress!
Reminders:
DIBELS assessment results went home on Wednesday. I will be contacting some parents to meet to go over the results. It is crucial that you are reading to/with your child every night at home. The experience of reading will help them progress this year.
Also, please review the alphabet awareness assessment. At this point, your child should be able to identify at least 20 of 26 capital and lowercase letters. They need to master the letters and the letter sounds before they can read! Please practice any letters they do not know and then work on letter sounds. Let me know if you need any help or have any questions.
Thursday, October 8- No School
Friday, October 9- Our field trip to the Dinges Fall Festival pumpkin patch is next Friday. Students must bring a bag lunch (somthing that can be thrown away not a lunch box) on this day. They can wear jeans and a Friday shirt or school polo. If your child is getting picture retakes, they can bring their jeans and Friday shirt to change into after their pictures. Parents are welcome to drive separately and join us, but keep in mind that this is the students' time to interact with their 8th grade buddy socially. We'll have other opportunities throughout the year to go on field trips with your child. However, if you would like to meet us there, please let me know ASAP so I can add it to our numbers.
