Behavior Chart
You might have noticed a different behavior chart in your child's folder tonight in addition to their monthly behavior calendar.  Every child received a behavior chart today that was kept at their seat.  They earned stamps on it according to the lessons throughout the day (morning meeting, calendar, writer's workshop, etc.) ;hence earning stickers on their sticker chart.  The purpose of these charts is to get each child on track behaviorally and to inform the parents if there are problems at specific times throughout the day.  Please sign and return tomorrow.  It will be placed in their communication logs.  We will continue this for a few days and then reassess.  It went well today and the students loved earning lots of stickers!  Please review these daily behavior charts each night with your child.

Homework
Homework was sent home with your children on Tuesday.  In the future, you will receive the homework on Monday.  Please return the completed form as well as one completed letter-based project on Friday.  Some students will have an opportunity to share their homework.  The purpose of this homework is to practice letter formation, letter sounds, as well as association of letter with items.  This will reinforce what we are working on in class.

Conferences
Just a head's up that our class (and only our class) will not be having conference on November 25 and 26.  I'm presenting at a national teacher conference in Florida and will be out of town.  We will have our conferences November 18, 19, and 20.  I'm available before school, at lunch (11:00), and after school.  I'll be sending more information out as it gets closer.

- name writing (capital letters and lowercase)
- writing numbers 0-9
- Sign of the Cross

Friday September 6th

We had a wonderful day in kindergarten today.  Many students were really putting effort into their work and behavior.  The class was rewarded with an episode of VeggieTales at the end of the day!

In the red folder today is a general overview of things we've been working on in class.  I've also provided areas of strength and areas of improvement for each child.  After 12 days in school, I have a better understanding of academics and behavior within the classroom and wanted to communicate it with you.  Please know that if there is a major issue, I will contact you directly.  Most of these issues are minor or typical 5 year old behavior.  Everyone is transitioning back to school mode and I want to make it as smooth as possible for each child!!  If you have any specific questions, please feel free to email me!

We made Inchworms as our cooking project today.  Remember that there is no need to send in a snack on Fridays because of our cooking lesson.

Next week:

Poem- Baa, baa black sheep

Religion- Practice Sign of the Cross
God Made Everything

Math- Patterning

Wednesday September 4th

I hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Just a reminder that each child needs to bring in a labeled snack Monday-Thursday.

Also, if you have not sent in a separate pair of P.E. shoes, please do so by tomorrow.

We had a few issues with behavior in Mass today.  Please speak to your children about their behavior in Mass.  They need to listen to their 8th grade buddies!  If there was an issue, there was a note on their behavior calendar.

Finally, we've been speaking a lot about the difference between play time and work time and what types of voices we should use in the classroom (quiet voice, play voice, no voice).  Please reinforce this concept with your children at home!
